Hosanna (Palm Sunday Special)

The Triumphal Entry Matthew 21:1-10 Mark 11:1-11 Luke 19:29-40 John 12:12-19
Jesus comes to the Holy City(Jerusalem) and the people come to greet their King.  The people came to the city gate to cheer on their King, who they thought was going to conquer the Romans and be the great conquering King all of their scholars said he would be.
The people cried Hosanna(save) and laid down palm branches and their robes in the fashion fitting a king(2 Kings 9:13). The Israelite's thought they knew what he had come to do, to save them from the Roman oppressors.
When Jesus came riding on a donkey as a symbol of peace.   he was still there to rule and reign over God's chosen people, but was not there to wage war on the Romans.

Matthew 21:9

9  ...“Hosanna to the Son of David;Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;Hosanna in the highest!”
The Jewish people knew that he was coming to establish his kingdom.   Jesus came to show the Jews that he was there to free them,  so of course The first place he went was to the temple.

Jesus Clears the Temple after the his first miracle at the wedding in Cana which was earlier in his ministry. John 2:13-17

As soon as he got to the temple he saw the Money changers were  charging people a fee for the money they were exchanging.  Jesus was angry with what he saw and flipped the tables of the money changers and drove out the people selling animals in the outer court of the temple(Matthew 21:12-13).  All of this corruption was happening inside the temple.   The Temple is supposed to be a representation of Heaven (his true kingdom) on earth.

Matthew 21:13

13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”
