Mission Statement

"There's more feasting in the bible than fasting"
Everybody has a memory tied to food,  Everybody has a favorite food,  Family gatherings, Birthdays,  wedding,  funerals food is at the center of every celebration of life.  In the bible I see many feasts and Jesus sitting down at the table with his disciples and with sinners,  and I hope and pray that I will encounter, and show Jesus love with the people I work with and those whom I am serving.  My vision and what I will be working towards is to start a restaurant.  I want to start a business that is the mission

One of my motivations for wanting to start a restaurant is to reach out and offer opportunities to people who are coming out of vulnerable situations like;
  • people coming out of trafficking
  • people coming out of rehabilitation
  • at risk youth.
    Photo @ Mujeres Nuevo Comienzo

    I also have an idea of how I want to use the profits from this restaurant would like to go to;
  • 50% to go toward the restaurant and other ministry
  • 40% to go to locally run ministries and to local missionaries
  • 10% to donate
I am also looking to explore partnering with ministries that are working with these groups to find ways to generate jobs opportunities for the people they are ministering to.

The Betrothal: Waiting For The Groom

Eyrusin-  This is the actual betrothal period which is also called kiddushim which means "sanctification" or "set apart".  During this period in the betrothal is where the groom goes out to build a place for he and the bride to live in,  this place that he is building is usually a room or dwelling place that would be built on to the father of the grooms house(John 14:1-6).  The time that the bride and groom spend apart is determined by the Father of the groom,  it usually last for one year.  During this time They must stay faithful to one another.
Matan- Is the bride gift,  which is meant to be something for the bride to remember the groom while he is away. Often times the bride gift is something only the bride can use, two coins of nominal value were often time used as a bride gift.  Sometimes rich families would send a trusted servant as a bride gift(John 14:16-17).  The servant sent to the bride also gave the added gift of sending messages and teaching the bride the ways of the groom(John 16:12-15).
Our bride gift is the Holy Spirit.
Mikveh- Is the ritual immersion that the bride and groom take part in separately, it is not bath to get physically clean.  The mikveh represents;

  • The womb and the grave
  • Life and the afterlife
the ritual is the symbol of metamorphosis or a change from one thing to another.  there must be a "mikveh guide" or "mikveh lady" who hears the profession of love or faith and is a witness that every part of the body has been submerged in water (Matthew 3:13-17).

The Betrothal: The Bride Price

Mohar is the Bride Payment/Price, it is the final step before a betrothal is made official.  The biblical origins of the bride price can be found in Genesis 24:53 where Abraham's servant gives gifts to both Rebecca and to her family.  The bride price in the Jewish betrothal was an offering to the family of the bride;

  • To show the grooms affection for the bride.
  • To reimburse the family of the bride for their daughter leaving, and the work she did around the house.

The Mohar was all primarily for the bride.  The bride price does not give ownership of the bride,  and actually doesn't even have to have a monetary value.  If the family agree's with the betrothal the final part of this step is for the bride to consent (Genesis 24:57-58).  If the bride accepts this arrangement then the betrothal is binding and can only be nullified in divorce.

The bride price Jesus paid was to die for all our sins.  He  bore the Judgment that we deserve for our sins,  all we have to do is believe in our hearts in his sacrifice and stay faithful to him.  If you accept and believe in this you will also walk in his ways and you will have eternal life (John 3:16-18).

Hosanna (Palm Sunday Special)

The Triumphal Entry Matthew 21:1-10 Mark 11:1-11 Luke 19:29-40 John 12:12-19
Jesus comes to the Holy City(Jerusalem) and the people come to greet their King.  The people came to the city gate to cheer on their King, who they thought was going to conquer the Romans and be the great conquering King all of their scholars said he would be.
 The people cried Hosanna(save) and laid down palm branches and their robes in the fashion fitting a king(2 Kings 9:13). The Israelite's thought they knew what he had come to do, to save them from the Roman oppressors.
When Jesus came riding on a donkey as a symbol of peace.   he was still there to rule and reign over God's chosen people, but was not there to wage war on the Romans.

Matthew 21:9

9  ...“Hosanna to the Son of David;Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;Hosanna in the highest!”
The Jewish people knew that he was coming to establish his kingdom.   Jesus came to show the Jews that he was there to free them,  so of course The first place he went was to the temple.

Jesus Clears the Temple after the his first miracle at the wedding in Cana which was earlier in his ministry. John 2:13-17

As soon as he got to the temple he saw the Money changers were  charging people a fee for the money they were exchanging.  Jesus was angry with what he saw and flipped the tables of the money changers and drove out the people selling animals in the outer court of the temple(Matthew 21:12-13).  All of this corruption was happening inside the temple.   The Temple is supposed to be a representation of Heaven (his true kingdom) on earth.

Matthew 21:13

13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”

The Betrothal: The marriage contract

The Ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract that is just like a prenuptial agreement,   in it is an outlines the duties of  the bride and groom.  The Ketubah is written by the father of the groom.  One of the main and most important reason for the creation of the ketubah is for the  purpose of having a written record of what the bride would get in case of;  divorce or death of the groom.

 An 18th century Ketubah in Hebrew, a Jewish marriage-contract outlining the duties of each partner.
  • The earliest known Ketubah is from around 440 B.C.
  • The first form of the standard Ketubah that is used today was created in the 1st century B.C.

A more detailed explanation of the basic contract guidelines can be found here.

A Ketubah can also be referred to as covenant,  in Matthew 26:26-28 we see where Jesus makes this covenant with his diciples.  The Bible is our Covenant with Jesus,  in God's word is where we can find all of the promises of God!

The Betrothal: Finding a match

 Marriage is one of the many ways that Jesus tells about salvation. We have to look at the traditions of a Jewish betrothal Genesis 24 to really understand the message.

Shiddukhin- Jewish marriages were mostly arranged by the father of the groom during Jesus time,  Shiddukhin is the first step before the betrothal, where a father finds a match for his son.  One of the biggest criteria that a father would look for is the character and faith of the person he is trying to find for his son.

Shadkhan-  Is a marriage broker/matchmaker.
 A father would send someone in his place to find a bride for his son.  The Shadkhan goes to tell the prospective bride to be that the father he is representing would like to make a match for his son and also give an offer to the family.
This is one way to look at evangelism.  The Shadkhan is chosen based on there character,  a father wouldn't pick someone of questionable character with such an important task.  All of  us who believe are called to be a match maker for Jesus!

a quick list of some things we can take away from Genesis 24:1-14 how Abraham's servant went to find someone for Issac.  (The name of Abraham's servant is Eliezer according to Jewish tradition Genesis 15:2.)

  • He was there to offer what the bride would receive.(v. 8)
  • He went to where he knew he could find people. (v. 10-11)
  • Prayed to God for success and for his masters success (v. 12)
It's good to know that God will take anyone who will believe in Jesus!

Fruit Salad Tree

Fruit Salad Tree

Romans 11:24 Talks about the natural growth and the branches grafted contrary to nature.  This type of grafting is often done for decorative plants and in apple orchards,  Where a crab apple branch is grafted into a line of trees so that cross pollination happens.

The graft on this tree is so good you can't tell which branch was grafted on
These trees that are grafted like this can be called Fruit salad trees,  here are some examples of what I mean;
  • Apples and pears grafted to the same tree.
  • Stone fruits like;  peaches,  plums,  nectarines,  apricots grafted on the same tree.
  • Citrus fruits like; oranges,  lemons,  limes,  grapefruits grafted on the same tree.
  • Or any other type of tree branch (of the same family/species like olive branches to olive tree in Romans 11:17-24) can be grafted to the same tree.
Cross pollination-  Many fruit trees can self pollinate,  But when a tree self pollinates it doesn't produce as much fruit as a tree that is cross pollinated.

This analogy is a model for the church:
  • God is the root that supplies all thing for the tree to live and produce fruit,  like The Holy Spirit
  • Jesus is the trunk of the tree which all the branches are connected to the the roots(God)
  • We are the branches we can produce the most fruit when we a in community.
Hebrews 10:24-25 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
